It is not uncommon for the Supreme court’s docket to change when one party replaces the other in the White House. According to the Associated Press, Trump may be able to affect it even before he chooses a replacement justice next year. For example a case currently being considered by the Supreme court on bathroom rights for identifying americans is based upon an application of U.S. Education Department law prohibiting to gender identity. By withdrawing that guidance, Trump can send the case back to lower courts. While it’s not clear what exactly Trump will do in office, he has publicly vowed to repeal many of the laws Obama put into place as president through executive action which could effect decisions on the environment, abortion rights, and immigration.
