On Wednesday it was announced that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will be the first world leader to meet with US President-elect Donald Trump. According to Tomohiko Taniguchi, special adviser to the cabinet of prime minister, Abe is “thrilled” to be meeting Trump, adding, “This will be good opportunity for them to get to know each other well.” Abe and Trump will reportedly meet on the way to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru over the weekend amid concerns about the future relationship between the two nations following Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. military remove itself from Japan’s shores.
