President Elect Donald Trump has offered Lt. General Michael Flynn a top spot as his national security advisor. Flynn is a lifelong Democrat. The former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), he was one of the highest-ranking national security officials supporting Trump. Flynn informally advised him on foreign policy during the primary campaign. He favors stronger ties with Russia and has been an outspoken critic of President Obama. The appointment, however, might not sit well with Democrats. Adam Schiff, the top House Democrat on the Intelligence committee, issued a statement saying he is “deeply concerned” about Flynn’s views on Russia. Schiff questioned Flynn’s “uncritical acceptance” of the Turkish crackdown on dissent and criticized Flynn’s “inflammatory remarks” about Muslims.
